Apart from fitting regular contact lenses, Chaplins Optometrists specializes in the fitting of hard and scleral contact lenses for patients who suffer from a visual abnormality called Keratoconus.
Keratoconus is a degenerative disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a more conical shape than the more normal spherical curve. Keratoconus can cause substantial distortion of vision, with multiple images, streaking and sensitivity to light all often reported by the patient. If afflicting both eyes, the deterioration in vision can affect the patient's ability to drive a car or read normal print.
The only effective treatment for Keratoconus of this nature is custom made hard contact lenses, as spectacles usually do not adequately correct the vision.
Chaplins Optometrists uses the latest technology in contact lens design and the latest equipment including Ocular Coherance Tomography (OCT) scans to accurately fit these specialized contact lenses.
